Introduction
Greetings, dear reader, and welcome to the Appalachian Irishman (on this platform). I login here about two or three times a month. I'm far more active, on my original website, Appalachian Irishman, where, this year, I've been averaging five or six articles a month.
Recent and enjoyable interaction with Jim McCraigh, on his American Faith & Freedom website, on Substack, however, motivated the publication of this article. My original website, which started seventeen years ago, on 3/6/2006, has the full body of my published articles, on that platform.
My most recent article, on this platform, is “How to Pronounce 'Appalachian?' This Podcast Helps! (published 9-14-2023; article #32).” It republished the original article, of the day before. Since that article, I've published twelve articles, on my original website, which I didn't republish here.
This article is an index to the twelve articles, on my original website, from 9/24/2023 to 11/19/2023. I encapsulate each article, with a brief commentary. I hope that you enjoy reading what you've been missing, on my original website!
Most Recent 12 Articles
This index is arranged, in chronological order, by month. It includes the later article, in September, eight articles, in October, and three articles, so far, this month. Five articles embed episodes that are on Appalachian Irishman - Podcasts (my YouTube channel).
September
Seven Islands State Birding Park: 9-21-2023 Hike (published 9-24-2023; article #431) includes the 9/24/2023 video (of about three and a half minutes). The article describes the park and includes the park map. I comment about the hike and show two photographs. I make a few points, on what I call “hiking theology.” Did you see the two deer, in the video?
October
9-30-2023 College Football Review: the Georgia & Tennessee Games (published 10-2-2023; article #432) comments on the Georgia Bulldogs' win at Auburn and the Tennessee Vols' win over South Carolina. Photographs include my Georgia Bulldogs yard flag and one from Neyland Stadium, where our niece was attending the game. Mrs. Appalachian Irishman and I are a divided household, during college football season! Go Dawgs! Go Vols (unless you're playing Georgia)!
Tribute to KCSO Deputy Tucker Blakely (published 10-8-2023; article #433) is a somber tribute to a fine officer, who lost his life, while doing his duty, to protect and serve. His memorial service was held only a few miles from our house. I comment on the so-called problem of evil and final justice.
Cove Lake State Park: 10-10-2023 Hike (published 10-12-2023; article #434) includes a trail map, six photographs, and the 10/12/2023 video (of about a minute and a half). My wife and I had a hiking and an after hiking dinner date! That was the first hike at Cove Lake State Park. It was my 236th hike, since 4/23/2000. It was my wife's 28th occasion to hike with me. I never did see the devil, nor his racetrack, on the “Devil's Racetrack Trail!”
My Bigfoot Story: Yes, It's True (published 10-18-2023; article #435) recalls the experiences that were on two Fridays, in late September of 1977. My verbal account is in the 10/18/2023 video (of just over 30 minutes). As the article ends, “The conclusion is up to you, dear reader. What do you think that it was?”
RATMAN LIVES! (published 10-22-2023; article #436) is the saga of the superhero, Ratman! He originated in Mrs. Minor's advanced math class, at the Rogersville High School. That was in the spring of 1978. Ratman lives!
The article, United Nations Day, 10-24-2023: My Commentary (published 10-24-2023; article #437), discovers that United Nations Day is also National Bologna Day! The worldview of the United Nations (UN) is not the biblical worldview. The UN is full of “baloney.” The article encourages all people and nations, to follow the Prince of Peace.
House Mountain Hike #182, 10-25-2023: Conversation with Mike (published 10-26-2023; article #438) fulfills a promise that I'd made, to my deceased brother-in-law. It includes seven photographs of my hike. I conversed with Mike, in the 10/26/2023 video, for about five minutes, ending with a prayer. I'll wear the “Delta Saloon, Suicide Table” cap, on many future hikes, Lord willing.
A Dog's Perspective, on Her Birthday (published 10-31-2023; article #439) is written mostly, by Molly, our eight-year-old “puppy!” Didn't you know that some dogs can write? As the publisher and editor, I included a photograph of Molly and a few comments.
November (so far)
The conclusion to No TN Sales Tax on Food, August - October, 2023: My Analysis & Commentary (published 11-1-2022; article #440) states, in part, “From 2001 through October 2023, our grocery bill has increased 19.39% faster than our income. That's an increasingly larger slice of the budget.” I'd imagine that most folks could state about the same. Just before the conclusion, I wrote, “If I use two tablespoons of peanut butter, to make a sandwich, then I've spent almost 25 cents! I didn't realize it, before writing this article!” Why does peanut butter, and everything else, cost so much?
Knox Horizon Complete Auto Care: Recommended (published 11-13-2023; article #441) recommends, to local readers, a very good automobile repair shop. Why can't my new ol' truck just have hand cranked windows?
The most recent article, House Mountain: 3 Hikes in 3 Days! (published 11-19-2023; article #442), is about the three hikes, last week. It's eighteen printed pages long, includes fifteen photographs, and the 11/19/2023 video (just over six minutes long). Molly wrote about her hike with me, on Tuesday. The video encourages folks not to buy the hogwash of macroevolution! Who is Дед Мороз, in the Russian language? The video explains.
Conclusion
My original website, Appalachian Irishman, includes 442 articles. That platform has always allowed “Topic Sections.” There are twenty of those sections: Light at the End of the Tunnel, 2022 Slavic War, Appalachia - Upper East TN, Christian Evidences, Corona Myopia, Devil's Nose, Family, Freedom, Heritage, Hiking, Humor, Life (such as it is), Logic - Theology - Deep Stuff, Mission Work, My "Bionic" Life 3/29/2016+, Pets, Poly-Tics, Short Stories, Sports, and Worldviews in Conflict.
Also, the original website has always had a “Website Archive,” which organizes articles by year and by month. I wish that this Substack platform offered those options. I also wish that Substack didn't try to encourage paid subscriptions. My website platforms are and will always be free.
Happy Thanksgiving, to readers from America! Best wishes, to all international readers! I remain a formerly poor beggar, who found the Bread of Life. I am trying to share the Bread, whom I found, freely.
